Behavior Expectations and Standards

by Bobcat Council last modified March 21, 2007 08:26 PM

In developing self-responsibility, we work to give students:

  • a clear understanding of behavior expectations
  • specific feed back for appropriate and inappropriate behavior
  • an opportunity to apply problem solving skills to correct the unwise choice
  • a clear understanding of consequences of a given choice

Respect for Oneself, Others, and Property: Respect is defined as feeling or showing honor, politeness, concern, and/or consideration.  It means that we show high regard for ourselves, others, and property.  We behave in a courteous and respectful fashion toward others at all times.

Safety: Safety means being free from danger, damage, or injury.  All students are expected to make school a safe place for themselves and others and to avoid putting another person in jeopardy of being hurt physically or emotionally.

Personal Best:  All students are expected to perform to the best of their ability and to productively contribute to their academic work and behavior.  This means coming to school prepared to learn and maintaining a positive attitude toward oneself, others and school.

Responsibility:  Responsibility means we are all accountable for our own behavior and the well being of the school. It also means students are expected to be aware of and follow school procedures and to behave in accordance with expectations set up in the classroom and in the school.

Adopting Classroom and School Procedures

All procedures and guidelines at Brush Creek Elementary are made with students’ well-being and safety in mind. School wide procedures are reviewed at the beginning of each school year.  They relate to behavior in the following school areas:  Playground, lunchroom, hallways, buses, and assemblies.  Staff members are consistent in having students follow the school-wide procedures.

Classroom expectations (for all grade levels and classes) are developed jointly by the teachers and students at the beginning of the school year and are posted in the classrooms.
